Lead Partner - Edmonton Salutes The Edmonton Salutes committee was established in 1996 when a superbase was created at the Edmonton Garrison and the population of military personnel and their families increased significantly in the capital region. The mandate of the committee is to recognise and honour the military and their families in the capital region for their contributions to the nation. The Edmonton Salutes committee works diligently to help the military feel welcome and valued as members of the community. The committee members include representatives from 3 levels of government, business the Royal Canadian Legion and the military. Since its inception the committee has been pleased to provide support to such organisations as the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), Valour Place, Wounded Warriors and military units within the capital region through the granting of Freedom of the City parades and ceremonies, honouring fallen soldiers, troop returns and Change of Command ceremonies.
